Together Can Be Streamed, and It Could Strengthen or Shatter Your Relationship.

We present a test for partners in committed relationships who enjoy the horror genre: Get comfortable with your partner and stream Together. This 2025 indie hit recently had its streaming debut via Hulu. Outwardly, it might appear like standard physical horror, but within Together resides a deep meditation about the ways we decide to love each other.

An Introductory Film Delving into The Nuances of Love

Together represents the debut feature-length film for director Michael Shanks. It stars the real-life married couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Millie and Tim, partners that have been together for a decade. Married in reality in 2017, the two stars infuse a special spark to their portrayals, expertly portraying both the joys and frustrations of a committed partnership.

The story commences when the couple move from the big city to the country for professional reasons. A somewhat stereotypical narrative setup, of course, but that’s primarily where the conventions conclude. Together transforms into as much a deep dive into the psyche of the pair’s relationship as it is a body horror flick.

A Paranormal Spark

While walking near their rural residence, a tempest descends, and the two discover an subterranean cavern. After being trapped overnight there and finally finding a way out, a supernatural entity starts to affect the pair. This force compels a paranormal intimacy between them that goes well past typical partnership.

The complete narrative is a slow burn of scares, weaving in elements of dreamlike terrors, unsettling (but tastefully done) physical transformations, and authentically humorous interactions (sometimes in the middle of something horrific). Shanks weaves these elements together neatly and delivers them in a slowly mounting aura of dread.

Layered Performances

A large part of Together is solely the performances of its stars, and they masterfully render manifold depths to the characters’ relationship. Millie's sense of self and sense of connection is deteriorating due to a distance. Her subconscious resentment of Tim for his hesitance to chase only his floundering music career slowly bubbles to the surface.

In contrast, Tim's character senses confinement and isolated by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve moved to the country and distant from his support system. He is terrified of the notion of utterly sacrificing his personal autonomy in his partner. This fear is amplified by the reality he can’t drive and needs Millie for mobility.

The film's most intelligent aspect in Together refrains from painting Tim or Millie the clear bad guy.

Both characters confront the type of challenges that arise in long-term unions a decade in. Fundamentally, they have affection for each other. They share moments of joy, offer support, and are vulnerable at times. But below this facade, there’s an persistent current of uncertainty about their bond.

Symbolism and Metaphor

While the supernatural forces in Together symbolize these concerns of codependency and fully committing to a partner, the symbolism never feels clumsy or self-important. Instead, these ickier, creepier moments present a brilliant analogue to the relationship narrative. Both the horror and the drama enhance each other in harmony.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s conclusion, which won’t be spoiled here, has left audiences divided on the story's concluding statement about enmeshed dynamics. It has been said that single viewers have interpreted the film as a powerful case for staying single. Conversely, some couples who were in conflict found that the film ultimately assisted them resolve their issues.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own interpretation could function as a revealing measure of how you perceive partnership. Will the finale inspire feelings of uneasiness and dread, or a positive outlook on love? Will you see yourself in one of the characters and yell at the screen, or simply turn to your other half and state, “I understand that choice”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an test you can experience today.

Together is currently playing on Hulu's platform now.
