Roughly fifty vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they announced in a release.
Police state they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.
The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Police then discovered many other marked automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement report early analysis suggest the liquid was likely human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; authorities are presently not aware of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they stated.
Local authorities said they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have requested to the public for information.
A high-ranking official commented the attack left him stunned and had to be resolved quickly.
"This incident hits the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he posted on social media, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
